The study performed by Jakeman and Byrne, et al. was published in the European Journal of Applied Physiology. It showed positive key findings in women who wore lower extremity compression clothing, after intense exercise that could potentially lead to exercise-induced muscle damage. Perceived muscle soreness was reduced, and squat jump height, counter-movement jump height, and isokinetic muscle strength all saw positive results.
If you’re training clients that train at high intensity levels, and have limited time to rest between sessions, consider recommending compression wear. It will help them recover at a faster rate, and may help prevent injury as well.
Compression is warranted after intense activity that may lead to exercise induced muscle damage.
